Technology is ever evolving, being up to date is a necessity.
Chris Valkiers, owner of a sailing boat (Trintella 42) located at RYCB (Royal Yacht Club Belgium) in Antwerp, experienced a lot of problems with his boat. Every year Chris had a series of problems on the underwater part of the boat, mainly biofouling.
Today, a lot of people suffer from problems like algae, scale, corrosion and all kinds of bacteria. Whenever you come into contact with one of these problems, it will certainly have occurred to you to use chemicals to get rid of it. However, these problems will come back after a while as only the effect is treated and not the underlying cause, which is the biofilm.
A case study report of an ultrasonic installation in a swimming pond that eliminates the biofilm and algae.
Just like pipes, mixers, plate coolers, and heat exchangers in factories also need maintenance. With process equipment, one often sees that efficiency decreases as more fouling are formed. Of course, this does not happen without consequences.
You certainly recognize the problem of limescale. A chalky, off-white layer of calcium carbonate appears on faucets, showerheads, in kettles, pipes, etc…The problem is present both in industry and in your home. When you see this problem, the idea of chemicals will no doubt have already crossed your mind. However, these limescale deposits have more negative consequences than you might think.
Whether it is water, milk, diesel or alcohol, the same problems will always recur no matter what industry you are in. If you are using liquids, then biofilm is involved. It is this biofilm that is all too happy to play host to problems such as: corrosion( MIC), scale, bacterial accumulations, smallpox and shells.
